A) Contracts are for 12 issues per title, renewable. NO ONE gets the
"Writer for Life" deal.
- Contract for new ongoing titles are no less than 12 issue commitments.
- Any book currently being written may be requested ("dibbed")
by another writer to take over when the current writers contract
has expired.
- Writers completing their first run have the option of renewing
their contract regardless of anyone else "dibbing" the
title.
- Renewed contracts may be for either 6 or 12 issues.
- After the first renewal, the title will fall to the dibbed writer
at the end of the current writer's contract.
- If no one has dibbed a title when the current writer has reached
their contracts end, that writer is free to renew again, for 6
to 12 issues.
- "Creator Owned" series, i.e. series that have been created
for FDC that have never appeared outside this fan fiction universe,
the creator always has the option to renew over a new writer.
B) Writer requirements:
- ALL writers will be required to submit an outline for their 12
issues when requesting a title and/or renewing a contract. This
is NOT a hard and fast issue by issue plot, but a GENERAL OVERVIEW
of what the writer plans for the title and where he initially sees
things at the end of his run, and his general overall take on the
character, and the supporting characters, villains, and guests he
initially has plans to use. This is not to judge who has the best
ideas, but rather to try and nip potential continuity problems in
the bud. This will cut down on continuity problems early by establishing
availability.
- Proposals must be submitted when renewing a title, or taking
over a title from a previous writer.
- Proposals should be sent to miryclay@bellsouth.net
- All writers, upon accepting an ongoing title, must commit themselves
to produce no less than 1 book every 3 months. Of course producing
faster than this is always preferred and encouraged.
- At the first missed deadline, a writer will be given a warning,
and if an issue is not produced within one month, the writers
contract for that title will be forfeited. You get one warning
per real calendar year.
- If for some extreme reason, a writer needs to take time off
from their project they may request their title(s) be placed on
indefinite hiatus. Hiatus is granted by the Editor in Chief or
the Executive Editor on a case by case basis. (past examples have
included moving across country and being struck by a car)
- Writers are required to submit are brief description of each issue
upon that issues completion for use in our Direct Currents "advertising".
- Issues can be submitted in most text of html formats to either
miryclay@bellsouth.net
or CptMarvell@aol.com
C) The one title per writer limit. Initially, that is the rule. As
time goes on and a writer proves their ability to handle their title
in an expedient fashion (i.e. gets their books in in a timely manner,
without sacrificing quality for speed), a writer may be granted permission
for a second title. This is done on a case by case basis. Co-writing
is permitted and is not counted in the one writer system. Neither are
mini series of a very short duration (2 - 6 issues)
D) Heroes with multiple titles. We'd prefer not to have this head ache.
Our preference is one Title per Hero (Team books not withstanding of
course),but we are willing to be flexible if the writers are willing
to work very closely together.
NB: These Rules are not set in stone.
The current Editor in Chief, the Mighty Miry 'You may call me *chief*'
Clay Arceneaux and the Executive Editor, "Cosmic" Ralph Angelo
may alter them when they see fit. They're only a few basics that can,
and will, change.
